Hi all!
There is a way to actually make SQL Server 2000 work on Vista. I have got a Gameserver running on Windows 2003 Server using SQL Server 2000, hence i need to use only SQL Server 2000 on my Vista to make use of the Database backups.

Try the following:
1. Install SQL Server 2000 under Mixed Authentication Mode.(混合驗證模式) There should be no errors in installing it. Ignore the Compatibility Messages.(忽略相容/一致問題)
2. Restart your computer. (重開電腦)
3. Open the Service Manager. You will not be able to see any Server and Services. Close the Service Manager. (關閉服務管理)
4. Go to Start Programs-> Microsoft SQL Server 2000 -> Service Manager (RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR).
5. Now you will be able to see the Server (Your Local System Name) and the SQL Server 2000 services that are Installed.
6. BINGO! Just press the Start button and the services will be started.
PS: I am using SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition with NO SERVICE PACK and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1! It works fine!
